A Botanical Practice, Made Personal

The Private Apothecary is an invitation to create something entirely your own.
Rooted in herbalism, botanical perfumery, traditional plant knowledge, and the art of formulation, this bespoke service brings together the material intelligence of plants and the particular sensibilities of the person who will live with them.

Perhaps you are drawn to a scent you cannot quite describe, a botanical preparation that feels distinctly yours, or a collection of daily rituals shaped by the seasons, your preferences, and the qualities you find nourishing.

You needn't know which plants belong in your preparation, or even what form it should take. That is part of my work.

Each commission is individually researched, developed, and prepared by hand, drawing upon years of working with plants, their aromatic expressions, textures, and botanical traditions.

What Can Be Commissioned?

The Private Apothecary welcomes commissions for individual preparations and more expansive botanical collections.

Bespoke Botanical Preparations

A single preparation created specifically for you. Possibilities include facial and body oils, botanical balms, body butters, soaps, aromatic bath preparations, and other plant-based personal care.

Botanical Perfume & Scent Studies
A personal fragrance developed through botanical aromatics, essential oils, resins, and other natural perfumery materials.

For perfume commissions, the creative process may include a series of small scent studies: aromatic variations prepared for you to experience and respond to before the final fragrance is developed. Your impressions become part of the formulation process.

The Botanical Collection
A coordinated collection of preparations conceived as a whole. This might be a personal face-and-body ritual, a seasonal collection, or an intimate botanical experience created around a particular person, place, or occasion.

Each element is considered individually while remaining connected through a shared botanical and sensory language.

The Commissioning Process

01 — Begin with an Inquiry
Tell me what you are imagining through the form below. You might have a specific preparation in mind, or only a feeling, fragrance, texture, landscape, or memory you wish to explore.

02 — A Personal Exploration
I review each inquiry personally. If your project is a good fit, I will invite you to share more about your preferences, botanical affinities, scent memories, textures, daily rituals, and the experience you hope to create.

03 — Your Proposal
I will outline the proposed commission, including its scope, estimated timeline, formulation fee, and anticipated material and production costs. We will agree on the details before work begins.

04 — Research & Formulation
I begin developing your preparation, selecting botanical materials, considering their sensory qualities, researching ingredients, and creating an original formula. Depending on the commission, this may include testing, refinement, or a dedicated scent-study phase.

05 — Your Preparation
Your finished commission is made by hand in small batches, accompanied by information about its botanical materials, aromatic character, and use.

06 — Your Private Formula
Your formulation is preserved in the PlantLust studio. When you wish to replenish it, you may request another batch without paying the original formulation-development fee again. Reorders are subject to ingredient availability and current production pricing.

The Investment
Every commission is individually considered and priced according to the research, formulation time, materials, and scope involved.

Finished preparations, packaging, and any exceptional or specially sourced botanical materials are quoted separately.

Botanical perfume commissions involving scent studies and multiple iterations are priced according to the development process.

A commission proposal is provided before work begins, so you can understand the investment and decide whether to proceed.

An Ongoing Botanical Relationship

A personal formula need not be a one-time creation.
As seasons change, preferences evolve, or a beloved preparation runs low, you can return to the Private Apothecary for another batch of your original formulation.
For me, this continuity is part of the beauty of the practice: a preparation developed with care, remembered, and returned to.
