Healing Properties
Palo Santo wood is burned as incense to bring new aromatic energy to a space. The smoke is used in its local regions as a mosquito repellent and for spiritual practice. The essential oil is intoxicating in scent and is effective in relaxing our mind and spirit. A chemical constituent within the essential oil known as
limonene is one of the most common terpenes found in nature and it has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-stress, and possibly disease-preventing properties.
About the plant
Palo Santo or literally translated as “holy wood” has a long tradition of use throughout Central and South America. A shrubby tree, in the same family of frankincense and myrrh, it is revered for its aromatic wood that is often burned as an incense. Our Palo Santo is wild-harvested from a community of native farmers from Piura, Peru-- a semi-desert region on the western slopes of the Andes. Fallen and broken branches are gathered for use in a steam distillation. The use Palo Santo oil can be traced back to the Incas for its spiritual purifying properties. Today Palo Santo is a tree that is protected and we are working together with a rainforest regeneration project and local farmers to develop integral practices that guarantee a future for this sacred tree and the community that depends on the rich biodiverse forest landscape as a means of prosperity. This variety is not to be confused with the endangered species of Bulnesia sarmientoi which is on the ICUN’s Red List.

Contains beta-bisabolene, limonene, Menthofuran, Pulegone(+) (-), alpha-terpineol.
Extraction Method
Steam distillation of fallen and broken branches.
Regeneration Story
This essential oil is produced by the work of Camino Verde, a rainforest regeneration project in the Southern Amazon. They do amazing work that not only reforests but uplifts people too.
