L-lysine is one of the 9 amino acids which are essential for nutrition. It is estimated that up to 90% of the adult population is infected with HSV (Herpes Simplex Virus), which lies dormant in nervous tissue until triggered by stress or immune dysfunction. Lysine-arginine balance may affect HSV expression according to clinical studies. It has been found that arginine-rich proteins are required for the HSV to reproduce, whereas lysine competitively inhibits their "synthesis".
About the plant
Mauritia flexuosa, known as the moriche palm, is a palm tree that grows in and near swamps or other wet areas in tropical South America. It can reach up to 115 ft in height. It has large leaves that form a rounded crown and yellowish flowers. The fruit is chestnut in color and covered with skin that is shiny scale-like.

Alexander von Humboldt documented the tree and the ecosystem it supports in 1800 when traveling through the Llanos region of Venezuela. He made the observation of how many species were connected to the species and called it the "tree of life" marking it as a keystone species.
L-lysine is an essential amino acid that can be difficult to source through diet alone. It is known to support the structure and function of collagen found in skin tissue and can be essential to its renewal, particularly in the lips and mouth. It plays a role in collagen formation, along with its function in supporting the immune system.
